How To

Candy Cane I-Cord

Use two different colored yarn. Looks nicer done in light weight yarn.

A = color A
B = color B

CO 4 (A)

K2 (A), K2 (B) slide stitches right to end

K1 (B), K2 (A), K1 (B) slide stitches right to end

K2 (B), K2 (A) slide stitches right to end

K1 (A), K2 (B), K1 (A) slide stitches right to end

Repeat these 4 rows until cord is desired length.

Be sure to pull the yarn tightly. That closes the opening.

Cross the working yarn over the previous color, keeping the ends in the cord.

Be sure not to knit your ends….it’s easy to mix them up in the beginning. And remember, after knitting across the row, slip the stitches to the right side of the needle, do not turn your needle around to the “purl” side. For some reason when you’re using two colors, even if you have done an I-cord 100 times, you forget to slide the stitches instead of turning your work.

Practice this technique and I promise you you’ll look for reasons to use it on your projects.
