If anyone is interested. I have been knitting bed socks for the below freezing cold temperatures that our troops will facing shortly in Afghanistan. It's just a simple cast on of 36 st., then k2, p2 for 19-20 inches. I use size 10 needles. Leave long piece of yarn at end of sock, thread with sewing needle and take off knitting needle onto sewing needle, pull tight, sew hole closed and continue up seam to top. I would love to get them shipped out by Thanksgiving in time for Christmas.

If you would like to help, I will do all the shipping to the bases I have, some in very remote areas where needs are many. You just have to mail your socks to me. PM me if you want to help and I will give you my address. Thanks so much.

Pat

So, basically, we're talking tube socks with worsted weight yarn?

Is this something that could be an ongoing project for next year.. assuming we still have troops in Afghanistan?

Yes, that's it. As you can tell, I'm not a knitter, but I can knit these Laughing . I've been using a warm thicker yarn, but any will do. Any tube sock pattern is fine. I'm just doing it this way for speed. If our troops are still there next year, this will be an ongoing project for sure.
