I did not know what to say to my friend today.......I knitted her 6 cloths in varying mauve colours(her fav, colour) and wrapped a nice bar of lavendar toilet soap in each one. With a few other toiletries I thought this made a lovely pressie for her. Today I went to her place for tea and was amazed to find she was using the cloths as place mats on the table. I admit they looked lovely but she told me they were far to pretty to make wet and hid away in the bathroom.I just did not know what to say to her but came away feeling a bit disappointed...... How would you have felt Holly about this and am I being a bit silly about it Sad

I totally understand how you feel.
As , I have knitted them too; for the same thing and people have told me the same thing.
I guess they want everyone to see them as they know the hard work that went into them.
I think she honored you by using them as place mats.
I think I would just let it go.
It bothered me at first
But, they are the ones that recieved our gifts. It is up to them to use it the way they feel best.
In a way she is wanting to share your beautiful work. I think I would be honored by that. pinkroses2

Elisjay....it really was a compliment that she couldn't bring herself to use them as wash cloths. She thought they were just too pretty....please don't feel badly. I think the fact she wanted them out for everyone to see means she was truly enjoying them.

After they are washed I'll bet she'll start using them as cloths.

The last swap we did so many folks said the cloths they received were too pretty to use as wash cloths.

It's a good thing and I believe she loved them.

Feel better about it.

Very Happy

I think the same as the others. I think your friend feels your present is too nice to use on dirty dishes or spills. She will surely use them at one point, but now she just wants everyone who comes over to see what a lovely present she received.

I have been on both sides of this one. I made my Mom a matching set of face cloths, she won't use them. She put them on display in her bathroom.
At first I was upset, but then I loved the look of the dish cloth I got in the swap so much I use it as a doily!
Everytime I walk by it, I feel happier (doing dishes never did that Laughing ), so I can now see why someone might feel a gift special enough to show off. Smile

I did make Mom some that were not quite as fancy so she could use them daily.
Now when I make them for gifts, I include some that are just for using.

Holly, those cloths are great. I'm going to try to do all of them!

elisjay - at least your dish cloths didn't wind up being a dog blanket! (My MIL did that with an afghan I made for her Evil or Very Mad )
