All three Alfreds are gone

That is sad - but not surprising. If I'm remembering correctly it was a family owned business. When the parents retired, the son took the stores over and I'm sure he must be retirement age by now. Too bad someone couldn't have continued. They were great stores.

Last time I was in the area, a few years ago, there was a *very* nice JoAnne fabric store.....Was it in that little mall across from Colonie Center?? The name of it is escaping me --- Northway Mall?? Anyway, it was four *times* the size of the tiny JoAnne we have here. At the time I was into the quilting and I got lots of fabric there. Smile I've given up on ever finding "enough" or the right kind/color yarn in my local JoAnne store. Thank God for Kaleidoscope and being able to order on-line. Laughing

Oh Bonnie: Alfred's is now one store in a new location. It's probably 4 miles west of Colonie Center. You must've overlooked the rest of my note.

Anyway, yes, JoAnn is there and it's huge!! but Northway Mall was torn down some years ago and a whole new strip mall built. There's a Target, JoAnn, Dress Barn, Eddie Bauer and three or four other stores (that I've never stepped foot in).

And Colonie Center was remodeled over the past few years - it's a fabulous mall now, but there are no stores that really appeal to us. There are, however, some very nice restaurants there and (according to DS) a great Movie Theater with "reclining" seats (I'd fall asleep if I could recline at the movies!!!!).
