I am working on a pair of socks from my socks a la carte book and it says the patterns are set up for a gauge of 8 st/in but even on a pair of 1 1/2 nelson I can only get 6. Is there something I can do to still do the sock? It is a CO of 64 sts.

GA, my yarn is a little thicker, med weight, do you think I can still use it? I, of course have nothing smaller than the 1 1/2's, perhaps a knitting store is in my future. Very Happy

I don't know what size socks you're making...

Have you checked Sockulator... It may be of some help... you can put in your shoe size.. and gauge.. and it'll generate a pattern with numbers.. you can see if they match up.. If they do.. then you're good to go..

The other suggestion, if you stick with what you've got.. is maybe make to foot a little shorter to help improve the fit...

OK, that thing is cool!!! I had never heard of that before but found it on the web, thank you so much. It gave me all the info I need to to make my sock with the yarn I chose.
Very Happy

Glad you're sorted.

Which combination did you go for? I should really make some socks from that this year.

Just slightly confused but the sock-u-later is telling me to CO 44 stitches for a size 8.5 with a gauge of 5 st/in while the pattern calls for 64 st with a gauge of 8/in. Does this sound right. I am asking cause I had it in my head that it would be a larger CO.

Kathryn, I thought I answered this but I guess when I wrote the reply I forgot to hit submit. Laughing I was making the buzzz body with the oragami heel and toe.

Kathryn, I had to change up everything I was doing with the sock and as it turns out she is a lot pickier than I realized! Embarassed I have instead started the 2-at-a-time socks with an inverted stockinette because she doesn't like the bumpy part against her leg, Confused , but I am hoping to adapt the origami into this, we shall see. Wink

I cannot seem to make the Oragami heel with the magic loop pattern. I cannot figure out how to do the heel flap with the decreasing knit stitches. I will have try it on a different pair unless anyone has any suggestions.

Can you put, just the heel part on a pair of DPNs? Once you work them thru the heel cup then you can put them back on the circulars. It's just a thought, never having tried it myself..
